Undercover artist: Avoiding the social media catch-22

In an era dominated by the pervasive influence of social media, promoting my artwork without unveiling my face, name, and personal identity poses a unique challenge. I count myself as one with a group of artists vehemently opposed to the digital culture that reduces us to objects for scrutiny and dissection.

I'm not solitary in this perspective; there exists a community of artists who value personal anonymity, allowing their artwork to be the sole voice of their expression. While recognizing the advantages of virtual galleries and online visibility, I will continually advocate for opportunities that necessitate in-person engagement. This may seem paradoxical, considering my limited comfort with navigating social situations requiring small talk and social cues. Nevertheless, I prioritize genuine connection and would rather endure a few awkward moments discussing my work face-to-face in a gallery than miss the chance to witness someone's enthusiasm, curiosity, or critique firsthand.

Acknowledging the benefits of virtual platforms, my stance emphasizes the tangible connections forged in the real world. My artistic journey is deeply personal, requiring a connection that transcends the social-media-fueled divide. So if you're out and about, I hope you'll check out my current exhibitions page and drop by. I may just be the one standing awkwaredly off to the side, holding my breath, waiting to see what you think.
